HVWGA Awards 2009

Last night, the HVWGA held their annual awards dinner. Organized by numerous folks, especially Mike Migliore and Debbie Gioquindo, and Colleen from Brotherhood, the night was an incredible success.

The first event of the evening was the cocktail hour in which many of the award winning wines were available for tasting (always one of my favorite moments). The who's who of Hudson Valley winemaking was there. Doug Glorie, Mike and Yancey Migliore, John Graziano, Kristop Brown and the Specarelli Bros., Steve Cascles and his wife Lilly, Bob Barrow, assistant winemaker at Brotherhood, Steve Osborn of Stoutridge, the Feders of Clinton Vineyards, Richard Eldridge of Brimstone Hill, Paul Denino of Bashakill Vineyards, and many others.

John Graziano (Millbrook)

The first real award for the evening went to Ben Feder of Clinton Vineyards. He won The Hudson Valley Veritas Award. Ben was recognized for his life long commitment to the valley as a valley pioneer and maker of quality wines. The award and speech introducing and praising Ben was given by none other than Jim Tresize, President of the NYWGF. It was an honor to have Jim at the awards dinner, and it was also testament to Mr. Feder that Tresize would make sure to attend the ceremony in Mr. Feder's honor.

Debbie Gioquindo (The Hudson Valley Wine Goddess)

The food was delicious, and many folks went up to accept their awards. A few of my pictures did not come out, so I apologize. I did not get all the winners, but there are numerous great wines in the valley.

This year's awards were especially important, I think, because Hudson Valley wine is certainly coming into its own, at a time too, when the valley is bursting with CSAs and other artisanal producers like distilling, cheesemaking, and other gourmet products.

Congrats to the folks who put it all together, and thanks to everyone who attended. It was absolute proof that there are great wines being made in the valley!

Everyone - come out and taste the wine!
