At TasteCamp 2014: Hudson Valley in mid-October dozens of wine writers and bloggers finally disovered what many of us already knew in the Hudson Valley - Glorie Farm Winery makes kick-ass Cabernet Franc. The Cabernet Franc 2013 was a revelation. Big dark and chewy, with notes of raspberry, cherry, and dark plum, with graphite, and a nice, balanced pop of tannins at the end. This was as gorgeous a New York Cabernet Franc as anyone makes.
And this is an estate Cabernet Franc. Doug Glorie at Glorie Farms as one of the premiere fruit farms in the lower valley, and Cabernet Franc grows beautifully at his site. Winemaker Kristop Brown turns Doug's luscious fruit into an impressive elixir. But it wasn;t a surprise to many in the valley wine scene. It's been a well known fact that a vertical of Doug Glories Cabernet Franc would be the envy of any cellar.
Reaction was instant and consistent - impressive. When your at a wine tasting, its not what the writers are saying to the winemakers that's important, it's what they are whispering to each other. And all were whispering "Have you tried the Glorie Cab Franc?"
And YOU should be trying the Glorie Cabernet Franc as well.
