If you’ve never visited the Shawangunk Wine Trail, this might give you the push you need. Several Hudson Valley wines received awards at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, held March 23 and 24 in Rochester, and the eleven wineries that make up the Shawangunk Trail, which spans Orange and Ulster counties, took home a total of 23 medals.
The competition covered more than 3,500 wines from every state and 20 different countries, as well as four Canadian provinces. The panel of judges hail from all over the world and recognize wines for their individual presence, balance and varietal character.

Baldwin Vineyards in Pine Bush, Orange County, received gold medals for their Strawberry Wine, Raspberry and Triogy wines, in addition to a bronze for their Anthony’s Vintage. Benmarl Winery in Marlboro also took home a gold for their Proprieto’s Reserve, along with four other silver medals. Brotherhood in Washingtonville, Orange County, deemed America’s Oldest Winery, also won bronze for the 2011 Dry Riesling and 2011 Pinot Noir.
